Philip Anselmo

Pantera / Down

At the age of 19, now legendary metal front man, Philip Anselmo took over as the lead singer of Pantera in 1987, which helped take the band in a heavier direction. Pantera would go on to become one of the biggest metal acts of the 1990’s with the release of Cowboys from Hell (1990) and Vulgar Display of Power (1992). Philip’s trademark growl, in combination with the shredding prowess of Dimebag Darrel Abbot, gained Pantera a loyal following, and they would go on to release three more studio albums before disbanding. After Pantera, Philip focused on his other bands, Superjoint Ritual and, most recently, Down. Down released its first album entitled NOLA in 1995 and later, with former Pantera bass player Rex Brown, Bustle in Your Hedgerow in 2002. Down is currently working on their fourth studio album. Philip also plays guitar in the band Arson Anthem alongside Eyehategod front man Mike Williams on vocals. He recently founded Housecore Records to release his many side projects and other music.
