Zoom H4 FAQs

Q) Can you record onto the SD Card while using the H4 as a computer interface?

A) No, although the H4 is a portable recorder that also operates as a USB audio interface, you cannot record to the SD card when in interface mode.

Q) How long do the batteries last? How long do the batteries last while using the phantom power?

A) We have tested battery life to be over 4 hours constant recording with internal X/Y microphones, using standard alkaline batteries. Since every microphone uses different amounts of phantom power, it is difficult to estimate what type of battery life you will experience. The H4 was tested at 3 hours continuous recording time using two Samson CL7s running at 48 volt phantom power.

Q) Does the H4 require any special software for converting files onto a computer?

A) No, the H4 saves tracks directly to .wav or .mp3 file formats, so there is no conversion software needed.

Q) What Is the Warranty?

A) All Zoom products have a one year warranty.

Q) How do you operate the menu screens on the H4?

A) The Menu screens on the H4 are navigated using the Jog Wheel.

Q) How do you change the recording resolution of the recordings?

A) You can change the recording resolution using the track status keys on the left side of the H4.

Q) Will the H4 take a 4GB SD card?

A) Currently, the H4 only supports up to 2GB SD card.

Q) Will the H4 ever be able to take a larger SD card?

A) At this point the H4 supports the full 2GB SD card capacity. At some point in the future (after the standards have been settled on) the H4 may support the new SD HD format cards that are larger in capacity.

Q) Where can I purchase additional SD cards for my H4?

A) You can purchase SD cards in 128MB, 1GB and 2GB capacities directly from Samson, or at any computer or electronics store.

Q) What are the recommended SD Cards that will work with the H4?

Q) Will the H4 provide phantom power when using batteries?

A) Yes, the H4 will provide a full 48 volts of phantom power using 2 AA batteries.

Q) What does the Cubase LE software do?

A) The H4 includes Cubase LE software for PC and Mac. This software allows you to connect the H4 to your computer for use as a Digital Recording Interface. You can also use Cubase LE to edit files recorded on the H4.

Q) Can you split up or otherwise edit a file within the H4?

A) File editing functions on the H4 are limited to bouncing and deleting files. Further editing can be done on a computer using the supplied Cubase software, or any other DAW.
